Yoga Etiquette
I’ve been thinking about yoga etiquette and especially shavasana.
I know it can feel like the “end” of class, but it’s really part of the practice. Sometimes it’s the hardest part. We spend so much of our lives rushing, talking, checking our phones, and doing the next thing. Then we get to class, move our bodies, breathe, release a little, and finally give ourselves permission to be still.
That stillness matters.
Shavasana is where your body gets to receive the work you just did. Your nervous system gets a chance to settle. Your breath softens. Your mind gets a little break.
So when you come to class, try to arrive a few minutes early, silence your phone, move with respect for the space, and let the ending be quiet.
It’s not “just lying there.”
It’s part of the healing.
