More Than Yoga: What We Really Do at Kids Yoga Camp
When people hear “kids yoga camp,” they usually picture children stretching on yoga mats.
We do that, but that is only a small part of what happens.
I lead Kids Yoga Camp at Results Fitness & Nutrition Center in Edmond, where every class is built around movement, creativity, mindfulness, and fun.
My goal is not to create little yogis. My goal is to help children build skills they can carry with them long after camp is over.
Each class has a theme that sparks their imagination. We have explored outer space, gone on jungle adventures, made essential oil necklaces, and used games, crafts, breathing exercises, and guided relaxation to help kids learn in a way that feels natural.
Through camp, children practice how to:
Notice how their bodies feel
Calm themselves when emotions get big
Focus on one thing at a time
Build confidence
Work together
Be kind to themselves and others
One of my favorite parts of camp is watching the kids grow more comfortable each time they come. Children who walk in shy begin volunteering. Kids who have trouble slowing down discover that breathing can help. Friendships begin to form because the environment is supportive instead of competitive.
We laugh. We move. We create. We breathe.
Every craft has a purpose. Every game teaches a skill. Every meditation gives children another way to understand themselves.
Children are growing up in a world that can feel loud, busy, and overwhelming. If I can help them discover that they always have a calm place to return to through their breath, then I have given them something they can use for the rest of their lives.
That is what Kids Yoga Camp at Results in Edmond is really about.
